I'd love to visit your elementary, intermediate, or middle school. Presentations can be customized to your needs. Previous presentations included tying the theme of courage into a school's current writing unit for an 8th grade house, sharing the life of an author for 3rd graders, and reviewing the writing process for 4th and 5th graders. I also do Writer's Workshops where students work with me to write their own story.
Presentations are from 45 minutes to one hour. I prefer doing more presentations to smaller groups, but will talk to any group size. The cost ranges from $50 for one class to $150 for an entire day of multiple classes.
See teacher/student reviews and pictures below.
"Kelly's presentation was both engaging and inspiring for students. She actively included them in the experience by asking questions and encouraging participation. It was especially exciting to see her share her writing process in a way that was accessible and fun, giving the students a behind-the-scenes look at how stories come to life." - Katie Gartmann, 4th grade teacher, Marcy Elementary
"It was an absolute pleasure to have Kelly Flanagan visit our school to talk with our fourth graders about the writing process and becoming an author. Her presentation was organized, relatable to kids, engaging, and she modeled practical writing strategies that classroom teachers could use to help developing writers." - Erin Ridosko, 4th grade teacher, Maple Avenue Elementary
"It was a pleasure having Kelly Flanagan visit Silver Spring Intermediate School. Our students were very engaged in her presentation and interactive activities. She is an inspiration to the next generation of writers!" - Alyssa Knutson, 5th grade teacher, Silver Spring Intermediate
"Kelly’s presentation was extremely engaging for our students. As a former classroom teacher, she knows how to get kids excited about reading and writing. She hooks students in with interesting background information about Vietnam and then discusses the process of writing a book. Our kids were riveted the entire time, and many said that they wanted to become writers someday. Her presentation is an excellent supplement to any literacy block." - Julie Pettit, 4th grade teacher, Woodside Elementary
"Kelly Flanagan is an exceptional presenter! As a former teacher, she knows exactly how to engage writers and connect her ideas to their classroom work. Her book is fantastic, and many of my students have already ordered it—they can’t wait for her next one!" - Julie Reuter, 5th grade teacher, Horizon Elementary
