Kelly Flanagan was an award-winning elementary school teacher. She was selected for Wisconsin's Herb Kohl award for outstanding educators and was National Board Certified in middle grades. She has a B.S. in Journalism and a Master of Education.
As a 4th/5th grade teacher, Kelly’s passion was running lively book group discussions with her students. She believes there are no reluctant readers — just kids who haven't found a book they love yet. Her goal is to write that book. Kelly's books, A Place for Daniel and Holding Onto Courage are high adventure middle grade novels guaranteed to keep kids grades 3 - 6 reading.

Besides writing, Kelly is the technology and webinar coordinator for the Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators (SCBWI). She also tutors low income students, spends time with her four active grandchildren, and plays hours of pickleball.

Kelly loves llamas. Sometimes her family calls her a mule or a llama because she carries heavy loads and likes to do work.

Boating, hiking, and swimming in Michigan's Upper Peninsula are Kelly's favorite summer activities. She's also traveled to 48 states.
Kelly's and her late husband have three kids and four grandchildren. She loves sleepovers at her place with all the grandkids. Her grandkids call her Gigi. They spend a lot of time at parks with her.
Kelly lives in a town called Oconomowoc (pronounced Oh-con-oh-mow-woc) in Wisconsin. It is the first town to show The Wizard of Oz movie. Every year, there is a big celebration.
